-Pope John Paul II suggests to sing the “Glory Be” when praying the Rosary, and to state a scripture quote after anouncing the mystery. [note: chanting the ‘Glory be’ and stating a short scripture quote are allowed in praesidium Rosary].

-10 days after Christ’s Assention, the Holy Spirit descends from the Risen Christ onto the apostles

-The gifts of the Holy Spirit should be begged for in prayer. From Rosarium Virginis Mariae: Trinitarian doxology is the goal of all Christian contemplation. For Christ is the way that leads us to the Father in the Spirit. If we travel this way to the end, we repeatedly encounter the mystery of the three divine Persons, to whom all praise, worship and thanksgiving are due. It is important that the Gloria, the high-point of contemplation, be given due prominence in the Rosary. In public recitation it could be sung, as a way of giving proper emphasis to the essentially Trinitarian structure of all Christian prayer. To the extent that meditation on the mystery is attentive and profound, and to the extent that it is enlivened from one Hail Mary to another by love for Christ and for Mary, the glorification of the Trinity at the end of each decade, far from being a perfunctory conclusion, takes on its proper contemplative tone, raising the mind as it were to the heights of heaven and enabling us in some way to relive the experience of Tabor, a foretaste of the contemplation yet to come: “It is good for us to be here!” (Lk 9:33).

6/1/2002 Book Club notes

-Our Christian Communities must be schools for prayer until the heart falls in love. Through prayer we come to love God and thus to also love our fellow man.

-Prayer is like two people in love. It doesn’t matter what they do; they are happy to be together

-We are creatures of God

-We must go into the desert, in a sense, and have time for silent adoration

– Adoration is first an encournter with God. Adoration is also a gesture of politeness to God. The biggest obstical to adoration is pride.

-We recieve grace from the Father, through the Son, in the Spirit.

-The three foods the devil temps Jesus with are representative of the three theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity

-We must adore and contemplate Jesus.

-In the Eucharist, Jesus gives himself completely to us: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

-The highest truth is not an idea; it is a person — God.

-To reject a single article of the Catholic Faith is to reject Jesus. Every “dogma” is a personal secret shared to us from Jesus.

-Words should only be spoken to say what is true. When words are spoken for any other reason, they are not an act of love, but an act of dominance.

-Gestures are often more importaint than words. We must show love and respect in what we do, as well as what we say.

-Mystery is what makes love beautifull

We must become more contemplative. The root of unity is unity of heart, which comes from contemplation. Spend time in prayer. Dissruptions and distractions can take us away from our interior life. TV radio, boredom, and other distractions keep our heart empty. We need prayer, not distractions

The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the of the people you see in your Legion of Mary work, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ. Indeed, nothing genuinely human fails to raise an echo in their hearts. For theirs is a community composed of men. United in Christ, they are led by the Holy Spirit in their journey to the Kingdom of their Father and they have welcomed the news of salvation which is meant for every man. All knowledge that does not have Love as its end is useless.

Confirmation is the sacrement that calls us to say to the world “repent and be saved.” The Legion of Mary is an example of the fruits of the sacrament of Confirmation. Now is a good time to meditate on Christ as an infant. Confirmation is rightly and traditionally given to infants. God defeats evil, not through his own power, but through His weakness. He became man and suffered death on the cross to save mankind.

11/4/2002 Legion Tip

Be nice to people. Do not be mean. Be more sweet than honey. But don’t water-down the truth. Sound doctrine with sweet honey. Evangelization is impossible. It is only possible with God. Like the walls of Jerico, which fell to become Jeruselem, 6 time the trumpets blew and the walls stood firm; — the 7th time the walls fell.

Silence is importaint in our spiritual lives. We should take time for a moment of silence in our lives Life is a mystery, beyond what we can understand in our lives; we improve our understanding of mysteries in silence

Side effect of the Legion of Mary is good society, caused by the spreading of the Catholic Faith. All that we do must be focused on being a light in the world and in making people holy Society and social effects of Legion of Mary work is temporary. Holiness developed in people is eternal. People move to heaven or hell and don’t stop existing. This world, however, will pass

Social peak of judism was at the time of King David. All other movements are short-lived. Human devotion is weak. our own need to be devoted and faithfull takes much work and failures even for the best of Christians. The social effects are but footnotes, we must focus on the eternal effects — those in the next world. We must focus on the next world, not this world. we must not seek rewards in this world, but in the next. We should meditate on the new Jeruselem and read the last 2 chapters of Revelation. We give birth to physical children by work. The work of the Church is to give birth to spiritual children. Genuine Christian suffering is not seeing the fruits of labor and pursecution until death. If we share in the passion of Christ, we share in his Duty and his suffering. This suffering makes us spiritual children. We must realize our dependance on God. “I can do nothing by myself, only with God can I please God.” Fruitfullness is done with suffering. We will being to see suffering as a good sign of fruitfullness.
