Edel Quinn Birthday September 19
Venerable Edel Mary Quinn was born on September 19, 1907. She fell asleep in the lord on May 12th, 37 years later. She helped extend the Legion of Mary to Africa.
She is noted for her bravery, and her devotion. When she was 7 years old and a strange noise was heard downstairs, she took a poker from the fireplace to check it out — it turned out to be a cat. She was very devoted to the Eucharist and recieved daily Mass; she also attended 3-4 Masses on Sunday.
Edel first heard of the Legion of Mary when she was at a friend’s house. The friend recieved a phone call, and she asked what it was about. The friend said she would not be interested. She asked again, and the friend said it was from the Legion of Mary, but that she would not be interested…. Edel invited herself to the meeting, and the rest is History…
Edel went to Africa to spread the Legion of Mary. There she started 100s, maybe even 1,000s of praesidia. She suffered many ills, including tuberculosis, dysentery, and had to deal with problems of Africian tribal factions in getting along, and other issues.
