The Apostle Philip

Filed under: About the Legion of Mary, News — Chelyse @ 8:35 am

The Pope has been delving into the lives of the 12 apostles during his Wednesday audiances.  As an apostolic organization, we should try to imitate the apostles in our work and lives and so these meditations are very inspiring.  Here is a translation of what he offered yesterday about St. Philip.

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Continuing to sketch the portrait of the various apostles, as we have been doing for some weeks, we meet today with Philip. In the lists of the Twelve he always appears in fifth place (in Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:14; Acts 1:13), that is, essentially among the first.

THE LEGION SYSTEM INVARIABLE

Filed under: About the Legion of Mary — Chrysostom @ 8:09 am

From the Handbook…

  1. Members are not at liberty to vary rules and practices as they choose. The system described is the Legion system. Each variation, however slight, makes others inevitable, till presently a body is in existence which indeed bears the name, but possesses little else of the Legion; and which the Legion would not hesitate to disown, even though work in itself valuable were being done. From the Handbook

The note of sternness must be banished from the legionary mission. Qualities essential to success, and above all when dealing with the outcast and the sinner, are those of sympathy and unvarying gentleness. Constantly in the affairs of life, we persuade ourselves that particular cases are subjects for rebuke or for the cutting word, and we use those words, and later are left regretting.

6/16/2003 Legion of Mary tip

Ecclessiology is the study of the Church and what is revieled by God.

The highest form of life is the contemplative life in a monastary.  It is the life of St. John the Beloved.

This is different from the life of Peter.  The life of Peter is the life of bishops and priests.  It is the second highest form of life.

The third highest form of life is the lay life.  This are the baptised and confirmed who received Communion and who ratiate the light of the Church — they are the front lines in the effort to inflame the world with the love of God.  The Legion of Mary is a form of lay life in the Church, it is a vocation like that of the clergy and the monks/nuns.
