Need for Evangelization

Filed under: About the Legion of Mary, News — Chelyse @ 11:28 am

The Pope on Sunday during his trip to his home country of Munich reminded the Catholics of Germany for the need of spreading the Gospel Message.  He mentioned social projects are important, but that more emphasis needs to be placed on the faith and the spread of the faith.

“Clearly, some people have the idea that social projects should be urgently undertaken, while anything dealing with God or even the Catholic faith is of limited and lesser importance,” Benedict said.  He continued saying “Hearts must be converted if progress is to be made on social issues and reconciliation is to begin, and if - for example, AIDS is to be combated by realistically facing its deeper causes.”  The deeper causes being faithfulness to spouse and chasitity are the best ways to prevent the disease.

The Legion of Mary’s aim is just this.  We proclaim the Gospel truth through our works.  Our aim, after our own sanctification is the sanctification of others through bringing Christ to others.  We tend not to be assigned to works at soup kitchens, abortion clinics, or bringing material items to the homeless.  While all good works, other groups and organizations do take on these ministries.  But we do visit the sick, the homebound, some to those in prisons - praying with them.  But most importantly we do visit all homes to spread the Gospel to bring people back to the church or for some to the church.
