The Faith of Mary

Filed under: About the Legion of Mary — Chrysostom @ 12:05 pm

Concilium Allocutio given May 2006 by Rev. Fr. Bede McGregor O.P. Titled “The Faith of Mary and the Legionary”

The spirit of the Legion of Mary is that of Mary herself. We will always gain something by reflecting on this statement of the Handbook no matter how often we do it. The portrait of a good legionary will always be to some extent a portrait of Mary. In the first place we look for a portrait of the character of Mary in the Gospels, a portrait drawn by the Holy Spirit Himself. And what stands out in the Gospel account of Mary is her faith: ‘Blessed is She who has believed.’ Faith is the fundamental act of Mary’s existence. It defines her whole inner life and is manifested in every detail of her outer life. It provides the key to every moment of her existence, the peak moments and the little unrecorded moments. No wonder the Handbook says: ‘Especially does the Legion aspire after her humility and above all her faith, that virtue which has in her alone been found in its utmost extent and never equalled.’ And it is the one thing each of us prays for every day: ‘Confer O Lord on us who serve beneath the standard of Mary, that fullness of faith in you and trust in her, to which it is given to conquer the world.’

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Filed under: About the Legion of Mary — Chrysostom @ 4:23 pm

Question: Should people be given work assignments at their first Legion of Mary Meeting?

Answer:  Yes (see Chapter 10, point 7 of the Handbook).  Also see the standing instruction that required a substancial, active legionary work for every member.

Question: Are Work Reports Required during each meeting?

Answer: Yes.  According to the Standing Instruction (that is read at the first meeting of every month in every praesidium) a report is required of every member every week of work performed.  According to the Handbook, “The report must not be too long; nor too brief; above all, it must not be a routine phrase. Failure in these directions not only shows that the member is neglecting his duty but also that the other members are assisting him in that neglect. This strikes at the whole legionary idea of the supervision of the work.  The praesidium cannot supervise a work unless it is fully informed about it.”Every member of the praesidium has failed in his duty if he allows a member to not give a full work report.  Chapter 18 # 2, Chapter 18 #7, Chapter 18 #9.

“GO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE WHOLE CREATION” (Mk 16:15)

Filed under: About the Legion of Mary — Chrysostom @ 10:30 pm

From the Legion of Mary Handbook

A solemnity attaches to last words even though they are uttered in turmoil or weakness. What then is to be thought of our Lord’s final injunction to the apostles: what has been called his last will and testament, delivered at a moment more awesome than that of Sinai - that is as the completion of all his earthly lawgiving and immediately before his Ascension? As he speaks, he is already clothed with the very majesty of the Trinity: “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.” (Mk 16:15)

A Special Thanks

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chrysostom @ 7:44 am

A special thanks to http://www.spiritdaily.com/ who has encouraged nearly 50 people to come visit our website, with a link from their own website.  Other sites leading a large number of people to visit this site include:  Google (who led in 186 people so far this month), Alexa, MSN, Yahoo, and Wikipedia.

I personally use both the Alexa toolbar and the Google toolbar.  They help block pop-ups, and provide usefull information.  They do take up room on the top of the screen, which I’m not sure I like.  I probably will start only using one of them at some point.  If you do use either of these toolbards, please ALLOW pop-ups for this website.
